LOU RAWLS PASSES AWAY
Soul music legend Lou Rawls
has died at age 72 in a Los
Angeles hospital, after
suffering for months with lung
and brain cancer. Rawls has
long been known for his
distinctive deep voice that
graced songs ranging from
gospel to disco over his nearly
50 year career.He also served
for several years as the TV
spokesperson for Budweiser,
however ,he will perhaps best
be remembered for his annual
telethon for the United Negro
college Fund.

Born on the south side of
Chicago in the mid 1930's.As a
teen he joined classmate Sam
Cooke in the group Teenage
Kings of Harmony, after a stint
in the army he returned to his
gospel roots as part of the
group The Pilgrim Travelers in
L.A. , he was involved in a
tragic car accident in the late
50's that almost killed him.
After he recovered Lou
became a solo artist on the
L.A. nightclub scene and was
signed to Capital Records by
1960 and by the late 70's was
an international star with a
catalogue of hits. 1975 Lou
signed with Gamble & Huff and
made the classics "You'll Never
Find", "Groovy People", "Lady
Love", "See You When I Get
There"   rest in peace Lou
Rawls we goin to miss ya but
we'll never forget ya man !
"Yeah Buddy"
I had the honor to meet Lou
Rawls when I was around 21
years old by doing this painting
you see and presenting it to him
at the Concord Pavillion
backstage and he signed it for me
and I still have it to this day
hanging in my dining room for all
to see. I have the utmost respect
for him for helping those young
and old to get in college even
though I was not one of the
United Negro College scholarship
recipient I admire any person that
makes a conscious effort to help
others benefit from education.
  God Bless Your Soul !
